松谷 伸二(INDEX) The School of Nursing at Kitasato University was established in 1986, and we are proud of our long history. We are a Life Science University that consists of seven departments, one of which is the School of Nursing. There are 120 undergraduates in each grade. More than 3,000 students have graduated from this department, and most of them are working as nurses, public health nurses, and midwives in a clinical setting. The licenses for nursing, public health nursing, midwifery, and school nurses are offered. The students havethe advantage of practical training in the adjacent Kitasato University Hospital and Kitasato Institute Hospital at Sirokane, Tokyo, and are able to receive advice from their seniors on site. Our Graduate School of Nursing is also one of the earliest institutes in Japan to provide Masters and Doctorate programs. As of today, there are over 300 graduates who are the leading professionals in their respective fields as specialized nurses, nursing researchers, and nursing educators. Our curriculum is designedto train nursing practitioners with high-quality skills and knowledge, and academic researchers who can continue with nursing education in institutes.

History
Kitasato University is a comprehensive life science university that inherited the will of Shibasaburo Kitasato, the founder of preventive medicine. Shibasaburo Kitasato preached his students from the beginning of 1914, when the Kitasato Institute, the predecessor of the Institute, was founded, along with the founding spirit of "pioneering," "thankfulness," "wisdom andpractice," and "tenacity." The School of Nursing was established in 1986 and explores the way nursing should be based on the frontier spirit unique to Kitasato University. In addition to nursing science, we approach the fields of other faculties such as medicine, animals and plants, and basic research, and practice education and research in line with the "practical science that helps people" once embodied by Shibasaburo Kitasato.
