Kitasato University Kitasato Institute Hospital Department of Research consists of three departments: a “clinical trial center” that conducts and supports human clinical trials, a “biomedical lab” that conducts and supports basic research, and a research administrative office that is responsible for their affairs.
The Clinical Trial Center has a Trial I section for healthy volunteers and a Trial II section for patients. The Trial I section mainly conducts Phase I clinical trials including early exploratory clinical trials and First in Human trials. The Trial II Section provides support for Phase II trials, Phase III trials, investigator-initiated clinical trials, and post-marketing clinical trials. Also, we have set up a volunteer room to support subjects participating in clinical trials.
The Biomedical laboratory was established in 1979 as a research department within a hospital. From the very beginning, we have been conducting translational research that connects basic and clinical practice, centered on doctors and basic researchers. Out of the hospital's four principles of medical care, education, research, and crisis management, we are working hard not only on research but also on training the next generation of talented healthcare professionals.
The Clinical Trial administrative office, which is mainly responsible for clinical trial administration, and the Ethics Committee administrative office, which handles application procedures to the Ethics Committee, support administrative procedures so that research can proceed smoothly.
