The department of research is based on the former Bio-Iatric Center established in the Kitasato Institute in 1987. After that, it was integrated with the Housen Clinic in 1999 and was renamed the former Clinical Pharmacology Research Institute, and has been renamed Biomedical Research Center in 2013. The current system was established in December 2015 and was established as an organization within the Kitasato institute hospital as a research department with functions of clinical trials, clinical research, regenerative medicine, and basic research.
Department of research provides various types of clinical research, from exploratory early clinical research to post-marketing surveillance, at various stages of new drug development, including clinical trials and specified clinical trials and regenerative medicine. We have an administrative office and a biomedical laboratory for basic research including regenerative medicine. In recent years, drug development has been carried out in various forms, including specific clinical trials, regenerative medicine, and clinical trials. Our laboratory is located within a university hospital and has a clinical trial center that supports early clinical trials (including the First in Human). Furthermore, since we can operate regenerative medicine and BSL2 lab in our facility, we can flexibly support various protocols. Besides, by cooperating with each medical department, we also support clinical trials that require advanced expertise. In addition to the usual clinical trial review, the administrative office of our hospital handles various clinical research reviews, from observational study to investigator-initiated clinical trials and regenerative medicine. An approved Certified Review Board has been set up at the Sagamihara campus for the specified clinical trials, and they are being reviewed as on-campus project. Please consult not only on clinical trials but also on clinical research in general.
