Microorganisms have provided many drugs and useful compounds and are a rich treasure house for drug discovery. Our laboratory focuses on discovering useful bioactive compounds, particularly anti-infectious drugs for bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses, from these microbial resources. For this purpose, we are studying themes such as the establishment of an evaluation system to search for new bioactive materials, screening of materials using this evaluation system, analysis of the chemical structures of the metabolic products of microorganisms and their biosynthesis, and identification of the intracellular target molecules of bioactive materials with the discovery of new drugs in mind.
Search for useful bioactive compounds from microorganisms and the determination of their target molecules
-
Exploration for anti-infectious drugs (materials that act on bacteria, fungi, parasites, viruses, and hygienically harmful insects that transmit them) derived from microorganisms.
-
Exploration for bioactive materials (anti-cancer drugs and treatments for lifestyle-related diseases) derived from microorganisms.
-
Determination of the structures and biosynthesis of useful bioactive compounds.
-
Elucidation of intracellular target molecules of useful bioactive compounds.
